About Alexander Ludwig
Ludwig grew up in Vancouver and started acting in commercials and television as a child. He played Will Stanton in The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising and Cato in The Hunger Games. His other films include Race to Witch Mountain and Lone Survivor.
Ludwig’s work before and after Bjorn spans young-adult fantasy, ensemble action and television drama. The Hunger Games gives a concise view of him as Cato; Heels offers the longer character arc of Ace Spade. His work as Dorn in Bad Boys for Life moves into a different action ensemble. These are useful next steps for seeing how he works away from the burden of Bjorn’s inherited reputation.

Playing Bjorn Ironside: performance & interviews
Watching the performance
The older Bjorn is interesting to watch as someone who has inherited a legend before having a chance to create one. Ludwig’s more imposing physical presence signals the passage into adulthood, while the character’s decisions continue to invite comparison with both parents. The change of performer is a change in the character’s age, rather than evidence that two different characters share the name.
Earth Abides gives Alexander Ludwig a post-apocalyptic lead role
Ludwig plays Ish in MGM+’s adaptation of George R. Stewart’s Earth Abides, following survivors after a devastating plague. The studio’s media kit records the UK launch as January 11, 2025, following the US launch on December 1, 2024. For Bjorn viewers, it is a change from inherited kingship to the practical challenge of keeping a community alive.
