About Ferdia Walsh-Peelo
Ferdia Walsh-Peelo came to film through music. Before playing the lead in Sing Street, he had performed as a boy soprano in The Magic Flute, formed a band and busked. John Carney cast him in Sing Street at fourteen; the film made that musical experience part of his first major screen role. Vikings later placed him in a different kind of story as the older Alfred.
His work as Miles in CODA returns to a music-centred film, while Here Are the Young Men and Pistol offer other screen settings. For a Vikings viewer, Sing Street is the most revealing place to begin: it shows the musical performer before Alfred’s royal responsibilities and the large ensemble politics of the later saga.
